EHS needs OT to knock off NHS girls
The Northampton girls soccer team rolled into Emmaus Tuesday evening looking to capture the first EPC tournament win in program history. The K-Kids had lost to the Hornets in the regular season 2-1, but had outplayed them in that game, so hopes were high.
However, leading goal scorer Olivia Abrachinsky, dealing with some leg issues, was a late and unexpected scratch from the contest. Nevertheless, the K-Kids fought Emmaus to a draw through 80 minutes of regulation time. Each team had a small handful of good scoring chances, but neither found the net, forcing overtime.
A little over 6 minutes into the first extra frame, the Hornets’ Ella Daly got the ball near the far post during a corner and tucked it into the goal to end the game.
Head coach Michael Missmer summed up the contest, “Obviously, having your leading goal scorer out doesn’t help you, but we did great. The girls fought hard. And I think a lot of this, since it just happened for us with Olivia, was that we had no time to train any changes at all. We learned in this game what we’re going to have to do if we don’t have Olivia in the (district) tournament.”
Districts start Wednesday. Northampton will be the 4 seed and host Easton at a time that has not yet been determined. The Kids knocked off the Rovers 1-0 a month ago, albeit with Abrachinsky in the lineup.
The EPC semifinals are tonight at BASD Stadium. Nazareth (5-0 over Becahi) and Parkland (4-0 over Easton) tangle at 5:30 and Emmaus and Central (5-0 over Whitehall) play in the nightcap. The final is Saturday at Whitehall at noon.
The following K-Kids girls soccer players were named as EPC All-Conference selections: Goalie Emma Fry was first team All-EPC for the second year in row and 1st Team Northampton Division. Juliana Medei was second team All-EPC and Divisional first team. Brooke Petraglia and Saige Korpics were 3rd team All-EPC.
