Police look to grow community engagement

Moore Township Police Department Chief Gary West, at the Sept. 3 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, requested and received permission to open a new checking account to possibly be titled Police Community Engagement account.

In addition to fundraising activities sponsored by the police department, such as a recent Pizza in the Park held at the township recreation center, the account will also hold any donations to the police department. The account is an element of a plan for increased police community engagement West hopes to grow.

In the police department monthly report to the board of supervisors, West said there were 321 total incidents recorded for the month of August, which included seven verbal warnings and written notices with issues to transgressors. Thirteen traffic citations were issued. One nontraffic citation for harassment was given.

During August, there were three reportable accidents and three nonreportable accidents. There were two arrests: one for fugitive from justice and one for criminal trespassing/harassment.

August cash and check receipts to the police department totaled $60 for police and accident reports.

The police department officers serve not only Moore Township residents but also neighboring Chapman Borough via contract.

The fire and ambulance report from Klecknersville Volunteer Fire and Ambulance indicate there were 89 ambulance calls and 35 calls, which included one fire.

Several waivers and deferrals, including resolution 2024-13, were all approved by the board. An ordinance addressing the township open records effort was passed by supervisors. All resolutions and ordinances are available for review by visiting mooretownship.org or calling the township office.

The township’s Community Days committee reported the 2024 edition of the event was well attended. Planning is beginning for the 2025 Community Days. To join the committee, contact the township office.

Supervisors approved trick-or-treat night for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Next month’s meeting is changed from Nov. 5 to Nov. 12, starting 6 p.m., because of Election Day, at the township municipal building, 2491 Community Drive. It is an in-person-only meeting.
