Lower Macungie residents treated to northern lights spectacular

PHOTOS COURTESY OF MICHELLE BARTOLOMEIA spectacular show of the northern lights is evident Oct. 10 in Lower Macungie Township. According to Chief Meteorologist for 6abc Action News Cecily Tynan, the pink auroras are rare and typically associated with high solar activity. These colors result from a mixture of red auroras with green or blue auroras.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center says the geomagnetic storm results from Earth being struck by an eruption of charged particles or “plasma” that burst from the sun.
A rare sighting of the northern lights in Lower Macungie Township provides a possible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the spectacular light show.
