LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Tiger girls soccer stays unbeaten

The Northwestern Lehigh girls soccer team has continued to flex its muscles as it works through the Colonial League portion of the schedule. Over the past week, the Lady Tigers have wins over Palmerton and Moravian Academy that have pushed their league record to 10-0 and their overall record to 13-0 this season.

Northwestern dispatched rival Palmerton in a 7-1 game and then saw their defense continue to work its magic against Moravian Academy as they shut out the Lions 1-0 Tuesday night.

One of the reasons for success has been an offensive attack that has plenty of balance. With 75 goals this season, the offense has features four players – seniors Brook Baldwin and Paige Bissell and sophomores Sophia Schaffer and Kherington Yezik - who all have double digits in both goals and assists.

Schaffer leads the team with 15 goals and also has 15 assists, which gives her 45 points on the season, ranking her in the top five players in the Colonial League in points. Balliet has 13 goals and 10 assists, Yezik has scored 12 times and has 14 assists, and Bissell has 12 goals to go with a team-high 17 assists on the season.

The league standings are bunched at the top with five teams all having two losses or less. Northwestern (10-0-0) and Saucon Valley (9-0-0) are the lone undefeated teams remaining in the league and will meet this week at Saucon Valley. Moravian Academy (9-1-0), Northern Lehigh (8-2-0) and Bangor (8-2-1) are all vying for the top spot in the standings. In addition to traveling to Saucon Valley, Northwestern will host Northern Lehigh on Tuesday. Between those two games, the Lady Tigers travel to Salisbury (0-8-1, 0-10-1) to face the Falcons Saturday morning.
