NWL beats Bangor, Lehighton

The Northwestern Lehigh field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, but it came in a nonleague game against powerhouse Crestwood. The Comets downed Northwestern 1-0 in Mountain Top, PA, but the Tigers did continue to roll in the Colonial League with a pair of shutout wins over Colonial League opponents over the past week.

The Lady Tigers beat Bangor 7-0 with six different players scoring goals. Northwestern (9-0-0 Colonial, 10-1-1 overall) jumped to an early 4-0 lead on goals by Olivia Costa, Haley Kerschner, Taylor Langley, and Cara Thomas. Junior Hannah Gober scored in the second quarter for a 5-0 edge and Costa added her second goal of the game in the third quarter before Carsyn Van Norman closed out the scoring with a goal early in the fourth quarter to get the win over the Slaters (5-3-1, 5-6-1).

From there, it was a trip to Lehighton (4-5-1, 4-6-1) where Northwestern again picked up a shutout in a 9-0 win over the Indians.

This week sees a stretch of three games in three days, all of which are at home. First up is a showdown with Palmerton (7-3-0, 8-4-1), followed by another nonleague game, this time against EPC power Nazareth (11-1-0 EPC, 11-1-0 overall), and the three-day stretch wraps up with a visit from the Catasauqua Rough Riders (5-6-0, 5-6-0).
