EHS tennis heads to postseason

The Emmaus girls tennis team heads into its final match of the regular season this week at 14-3 overall and 11-3 in East Penn Conference matches.

This week the Hornets will cap the regular season with a match against Parkland and then compete in Thursday’s EPC Championships.

Emmaus dropped a match to Liberty Saturday, 4-3. The Hurricanes swept the singles matches, while Emmaus’ wins came from the doubles teams of Brooke DiGiacomo and Nat Hillegass; Kylie Gleason and Anshi Kanani; and Avary Puliatte and Katy Kapp.

The Hornets earned a 6-1 win over Nazareth Thursday as Ashlyn Phy and Ava Grace Saab won singles matches, while the doubles teams of Malena Stetz and Gab Tranguch; DiGiacomo/Hillegass; Gleason/Kanani; and Dani Balik/Kapp won their matches.

The Hornets had a six-match win streak come to an end in a 4-3 loss to Central Catholic on Sept. 17.

The match was tied 3-3 after Central swept singles matches and Emmaus took all three doubles matches. Central won the tiebreaking match 6-0, 6-1.

The Hornets picked up a 6-1 nonleague win over Saucon Valley on Sept. 10.

Phy and Saab won singles matches. The doubles teams of Stetz/Tranguch, DiGiacomo/Hillegass, Gleason/Kanani and Balik/Kapp won doubles.

The Hornets swept East Stroudsburg North 7-0 on Sept. 9 and did the same to Pleasant Valley on Sept. 6. In both matches, Sophia Kaufman, Phy and Saab won singles matches, while the doubles teams of Stetz/Tranguch, DiGiacomo/Hillegass, Gleason/Kanani and Riya Patel/Kapp won doubles matches.

Emmaus dropped a 4-3 match against Stroudsburg on Sept. 3 when the Mountaineers swept the singles matches with the Hornets winning the three doubles matches before falling in the tiebreaker match.

Along with celebrating victories this season, Emmaus also celebrated the 50th year of coaching for head coach Bob Dragotta.
