EHS starts fast in win over Mounties
Ever since a week one setback on the road at Neshaminy, the Emmaus High School football team has turned the page and been on a roll.
In their latest game, the Green Hornets lit up the scoreboard from the opening kick off, scoring 35 points in the first quarter on their way to a 42-7 victory at Stroudsburg last Friday night in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference cross-divisional clash.
It is the third consecutive win for Emmaus, which improved to 3-1 overall.
It was the Reilly Bechtel show early on for the Hornet offense as the running back rushed for three first quarter touchdowns on consecutive drives, spanning 37 yards, 37 yards and 22 yards, respectively.
Ben Jones caught a 47-yard touchdown pass and after Jay Santos ran into the end zone from one yard away for the Hornet’s fourth and fifth touchdowns of the opening quarter.
The Mounties (2-2) did get on the scoreboard in that opening frame on a 90-yard rush as there was a bit of a breakdown in the Hornet defense. That 35-7 Emmaus advantage went into the halftime intermission as the two teams were scoreless in the second quarter.
Neo Michel capped the scoring in the game with a two-yard touchdown run in the middle of the third quarter for the 42-7 final score. Will Buck converted all six of his point after attempts.
Bechtel finished with 141 yards on the ground in 10 attempts with the three scores. Quarterback Jerek Cooper threw for 87 yards and ran for 31 more. Jones had three catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Robert Edwards led the unit with six total tackles, three for loss, and also had one sack. Michel and Ben Dennis both finished with four tackles and Joey Glover had two tackles and two sacks.
Emmaus will be back at East Penn School District Stadium this weekend as it will welcome Easton to town on Friday night.
The Red Rovers are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in EPC games. They beat Bethlehem Catholic last week 28-7 and, like Emmaus, haven’t lost since falling to a District 1 team in their opener.
After a 21-12 loss to Central Bucks West, Easton has beaten Spring Ford (49-7), Northeast (51-7) and Beca.
Easton’s offense is led by quarterback Cole Ordway. The junior has thrown for 500 yards, completing 33 of 56 passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Senior receivers Jasir Frutchey (7 receptions, 180 yards, 4 TDs) and JC Wilson III (9 receptions, 196 yards) lead the Easton receiving corps.
The Rovers average 6.1 yards per carry in the run game, led by seniors William Day (34 carries, 221 yards, 7 TDs) and Dorian Thomas (53 carries, 367 yards, 5TDs).
