Township fire department centennial recognized

On Oct. 3, during the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the commissioners recognized the Lower Macungie Fire Department’s 100 years of service with a proclamation.

The department was founded in 1924 and was originally housed where the Wescosville Fire Department now resides.

The department enlarged by creating the Brandywine station and combining with Alburtis first responders. In addition, the department also provides service to Macungie. The commissioners expressed their gratitude.

An additional proclamation was made for Dave Nosal. He has been the fire chief for the department for 20 years. Nosal is stepping down as chief.

In other meeting news, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry sent a letter to the township notifying of the renewal for the Workplace Safety Committee.

A resident requested an additional walking path by the Hills of Lock Ridge development.

Layla Muth who is a member of the Lower Macungie Township Library board of directors submitted a request to resign from her position. This was accepted.

The minutes from the Sept. 19 meeting were approved.

The bill list was also approved.

Ordinance 2024-04 was approved and commissioners appointed Portnoff Law Associates, Ltd. to collect delinquent real estate taxes and municipal claims.

The Sauerkraut Road extension continues to progress. The railroad crossing is almost ready for approval.

An open house will be held Oct. 15 for the new playground in Farmington Hills.

An executive session regarding personnel and land acquisition was held.
