Stephen A. Roman Jr.

Stephen A. Roman Jr., 86, of Egypt, died Oct. 5, 2024, at his home. He was the husband of the late Phyllis S. (Piervallo) Roman.

Born in Egypt, he was the son of the late Stephen A. Sr. and Mary (Harakal) Roman.

Stephen was a 1956 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Allentown. He went on to earn an Associate Degree in engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem.

He retired in 2002 after 20 years as the owner and operator of Rost Industries, Northampton. Earlier, he was the general manager for R&F Dress, Emmaus, from 1963 to 1983. He learned the trade, starting back with the former Samette Manufacturing, Liberty Knitwear and Keystone Dress, to name a few. Following the Rost Industries closure, he continued to work as a consultant for L&P Machines and D&R Precision, both of Allentown, until the present.

He was a longtime member of St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church, North Catasauqua, were he was active in the Holy Name Society, men’s choir and Boy Scout Troop 118. He was the first lector at the former St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.

He was also active with Boy Scout Troop 18 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Whitehall. He was very active in the First Catholic Slovak Union and the Slovak Catholic Sokol as an officer holding many positions. He was also a member of the Sewing Machinist Association.

He is survived by five sons, Stephen A. III and wife Christine of Whitehall, Christopher and Tracey of North Catasauqua, Theodore and Kathleen Seglets of Whitehall, Nicholas and wife Janette of Schnecksville and Dominic and Lori of Northampton; three daughters, Anna Marie and husband James Sullivan of Allentown, Phyllis Ann and husband Barry R. Beitler of Whitehall and Celeste and husband Todd G. Sipos of Palmyra; four brothers, Michael and Lucretia of Quakertown, Richard and Patricia of Whitehall, Emery of Coplay and Vincent and Joyce of Kempton; two sisters, Monica and husband Anthony Cocca of Whitehall and Mary Ann and husband Robert Cavallucci of Catasauqua; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

He was predeceased by a brother, John.

There will be calling times 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 10 and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at the funeral home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, 18067. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at the church, 1239 Third St., North Catasauqua.
