Sheckler News: Sheckler group to meet Oct. 10

Sheckler Home and School will meet 6 p.m. Oct. 10 in the library at Sheckler Elementary School. Meetings take place the second Thursday of each month during the school year.

The association has posted its first newsletter on its Facebook page, highlighting events and fundraisers brought on by the group. Proceeds from fundraisers are used to plan student field trips and provide classroom enrichment and equipment. Home and School is looking to expand its efforts with more volunteers.

Oct. 11 is Fire Prevention Day at Sheckler Elementary.

Public Library of Catasauqua is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a block party, planned for noon-4 p.m. Oct. 12. There will be games, crafts, animals and a puppet show.

CASD will be closed Oct. 14 for Columbus Day. Classes will resume normal schedules Oct. 15.

The kindergarten pumpkin patch trip is set for Oct. 18.

Catasauqua Police Department is hosting a Halloween trunk-or-treat event 6-8 p.m. Oct. 19 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St. Come dressed in a costume to get free candy.

No registration is required.

Pumpkin-carving contest submissions are due Oct. 21.

There will be an early dismissal — 1:30 p.m. — Oct. 23.

The Scholastic book fair is at Sheckler until Oct. 18, and online shopping is available until Oct. 24.

This year, Scholastic is offering a “share the fair” opportunity where you can add funds to the online account for other students who need help buying from the fair.
