Roughie harriers improve times

For Evan Reed, every meet means another personal challenge.

The Rough Rider sophomore has been working to lower his times and places in races, as he works toward the league and district meets.

Reed recently ran a meet at Palisades, and he finished 20th in a time of 17:30. It was his personal best for the season. Reed also sees his team gradually improving as well.

“I have been running well and improving every meet,” said Reed. “I ran a 17:30 at Palisades, and that gave me a lot of confidence.

“They have a lot of potential, and we are getting better.”

Head coach Kyle Rusnock also has viewed a similar picture. At Palisades, Jonathan Rizzo ran in 20:00, Jack Brubaker finished in 23:78 and David Mercado crossed the line in 28:12.95.

At the opening meet of the season at the Moravian Academy Lions’ Invitational, Reed ran in 20:22; Rizzo, 23:50; Brubaker, 26:26; and Mercado, 33:07

On the girls’ side, Shakayla Roberts ran her person best in 23:13. In the opening meet of the season, Roberts ran at the Moravian Academy Lions’ Invitational in 33:18.

Uyen Ly, and Kailyn Stewart both have been lowering their times, and they both registered their personal bests at Palisades.

At the start of the season at Moravian, Ly ran a 30:11, and Roberts clocked a 37:52.

The Roughies have a home meet against Northwestern Thursday.

“They have been steadily improving,” stressed Rusnock. “All of them have been working really hard to lower their times, and it has been showing in their performances.

“They had a great meet at Palisades, where they all posted their personal bests. We’re heading toward the end of the season, and that’s a good sign.

“They are working hard and improving every week.”
