Playoff Time Often shorthand, girls made it to postseason

The Whitehall girls soccer team has already punched their ticket to the District 11 playoffs, and are hoping to make it as a seven or eight seed in the EPC playoffs.

However, things haven’t been so easy for the team as they continue to battle injuries as the regular season winds down.

“The team has been very resilient, playing many of the past five games without as many as four starters,” said head coach Chris Bleam. “Young players have really been stepping up and the team has showed great competitive spirit in most games.”

Olivia Tabarani, Audrey Muller and Kaila Wexler have done a great job in defense in the absence if senior captain Jade Alvarez. Freshman Larken Good has also played exceptionally well in the back at times, as well as being the team’s second leading scorer as a forward, Bleam said.

Midfield player Kyla Braun has been an extremely consistent performer and junior Isabella Brogna has shown great growth this year in midfield, Bleam added.

“The team has earned a 10-6 record to this point despite missing the entire forward line of Collene Sommers, captain Sage Snyder and Emma Potocnie for several games,” Bleam said. “In fact, the team had only 13 players available for several games due to the many injuries. With one more win in the final two games, the team will earn an EPC playoff spot and has already earned a place in the 4A District 11 tournament.”

The team was hoping to get that win against Dieruff, which sits at 1-15 on the season. They took on the Huskies on Monday at home, after Press deadlines. The team ends the season at Northampton on Wednesday before the EPC playoffs begin. The Kids are 12-3-1 and among the top-four teams in the district, and are still looking to close strong and improve their seeding.

In the EPC race, the girls are 8-6 as of Monday. Dieruff is 1-14 and the Kids are 11-2-1. The Becahi girls are also 8-6 and looking to squeeze into the EPC playoffs while Freedom is 7-7 and will need help to get in. Back in August, Whitehall defeated Freedom 2-1, but fell to Bethlehem Catholic on Sept. 23, by a score of 3-0.
