North Catasauqua: CPR/AED training scheduled for Oct. 10 at borough hall

An American Heart Association hands-only CPR/AED training event is set for 5-6 p.m. Oct. 10 at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.

The training is intended for anyone with little or no medical training and can save lives and can be extremely beneficial in a home, work, travel, school or vacation setting. There is no cost to attend this training event.

This is not a certification course. However, if you are interested in becoming certified, you may let the instructor know.

Registration was required by Oct. 4.

The next North Catasauqua Police Department Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will take place 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at borough hall.

The meeting will commence immediately after the CPR training. Topics to be discussed include crime statistics, community events overview and community concerns and issues.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., will be holding a bag sale through Oct. 12. To fill a large brown paper bag is $5, and to fill a large white plastic kitchen garbage bag is $8.

The shop will be closed Oct. 14, 15 and 16 for cleaning and changing the clothing over from spring and summer to fall and winter fashions. The shop will reopen Oct. 17. Stop in for all new clothing!

Regular hours at the shop are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The shop is always happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing, household items and toys during store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

The Public Library of Catasauqua, 302 Bridge St., will be hosting a block party noon-4 p.m. Oct. 12 on Third Street between Bridge and Pine streets and will celebrate the library’s 100th anniversary.

Come out for a day of family fun with games, crafts, puppet shows, animals from Wildlands Conservancy, special guest Bruce the bear and much more, all free of charge.

The 17th annual Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 13 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.

There will be a craft and flea/vendor market, food, live music and a car show. Kids’ activities include balloon twisting, pumpkin decorating, bounce house, face painting and more.

The rain date is scheduled for Oct. 19.

The North Catasauqua Betterment Committee is actively seeking sponsors for the event. Different sponsorship levels are available. The sponsorships help to defray the costs of the event and also go toward committee projects and activities.

The North Catasauqua Police Department will host Coffee with a Cop 10-11 a.m. Oct. 14 at Taylor Roasted Coffeehouse, 1830 Main St., Northampton.

Join the police department on this inaugural community outreach event and enjoy a free 16-ounce cup of hot or iced coffee. You must be a resident of North Catasauqua.

The next North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting will take place 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall.

The annual North Catasauqua and Catasauqua joint Halloween parade is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

There will be a new parade route this year. The parade starts at Sheckler Elementary School on North 14th Street, turns right onto Race Street, right onto Second Street, right onto Bridge Street, left onto Third Street, right onto Pine Street, left onto Fourth Street, right onto Buttonwood Street ending at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park.

The rain date for the parade is Oct. 23.

Any residents who are interested in volunteering on the parade committee or the parade itself should contact the North Catasauqua Borough Office at 610-264-1504.

Students who need community service hours may volunteer for the parade to earn hours. Reporting time will be 6 p.m. Oct. 16. If interested, contact Cheryl Butler at cbutler@broskyins.com.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade can visit the borough website and fill out the participation form. The form was due by Sept. 30. Participation forms received after Sept. 30 will be put in the last division of the parade.

North Catasauqua Police Department would like to make residents aware a Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program seminar is set for 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 19 at Suburban North Family YMCA, 880 Walnut St., Catasauqua.

There is no cost to attend this educational seminar.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., will hold its Fall into Cash bingo Oct. 20 in the parish center. Doors and the kitchen will open 11:30 a.m., with bingo beginning 1 p.m.

Bingo includes 15 games, six specials and one jackpot round. There is a cost. Bring your daubers but no hard boards.

No outside food or drinks are permitted. The kitchen will be selling your favorites.

A Halloween trunk or treat will be held by the North Catasauqua Police Department 2-4 p.m. Oct. 20 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park.

There will be Halloween candy bags for the kids. Come out for Halloween fun at the park.

St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., is forming a new autumn bible study, set for 6:45-7:55 p.m. Oct. 21.

Trick-or-treat night will take place 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 in the borough. Trick or treat will be held rain or shine, and there is no scheduled rain date.

Don’t forget to turn on your porch light to alert trick-or-treaters to stop at your home.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., will hold its annual Halloween hot dogs and hot chocolate giveaway Oct. 31 at the church.

Mosaic Home and Garden, 1096 Milton St., will be holding a Goosebumps in the Greenhouse Halloween event 5-10 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be food, games, entertainment, dancing, a basket raffle and more.

The event benefits the North Catasauqua and Catasauqua fire departments. There is a cost.
