Hometown Hero banners coming to Macungie
At the Oct. 7 Macungie Borough Council meeting, it was announced Macungie will begin displaying Hometown Hero banners. To qualify, the honoree must be an active duty, retired, honorably discharged or a deceased member of the United States Armed Forces and be a resident, have lived in or had ties to the borough. Further qualifications can be found on the Macungie Borough website.
Banners will remain in place from April to November. Participants are given the option of receiving the retired banner.
In other business, John Walsh was hired as a part-time code enforcement officer effective Oct. 8.
Friends of the Macungie Institute are requesting to place a memorial in the flower garden for Robert Young.
Young died Jan. 25 at the age of 92. He was actively involved with the Macungie Memorial Park Association serving as a volunteer board member and president, Macungie Institute Association as a founding board member, creator of the Macungie Flower Park, Das Awkscht Fescht Chairman and the Kalmbach Memorial Park serving as trustee.

The Macungie Holiday Committee made a request for a donation from the borough to support Macungie Holiday. This event will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14. The committee also requested partial closure of Lumber Street and Lehigh Street for a wagon ride during the event. Macungie police Sgt. Travis Kocher confirmed review of the plan.
The Department of Public Works is requesting to construct an additional garage. This is being investigated.
Resolution 2024-07 was approved to reduce police officers’ contributions to the police pension plan for the year 2025. The 2024 Municipal Pension Plan Aid Allocation was noted.
An executive session was held for legal, personnel and real estate issues.
