EHS seniors are among students named National Merit® Scholarship semifinalists

Emmaus High School students Daniel Witmer, Colby Zheng and William Zheng are among area students recognized as semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Daniel Witmer
Witmer is captain/president of the EHS Academic Team and president of the EHS Math League. His leadership roles also include youth leader at Bethany UM Church.
He has made yearly mission trips to underprivileged areas, such as Zanesville, Ohio and is a peer tutor.
He also plays soccer in a recreation league.
Witmer plans to earn an undergraduate degree in neuroscience, followed by a medical degree.
Witmer plans to become a neurologist.
Colby Zheng
Zheng is an accomplished musician, participating in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association district and regional competitions.
Zheng’s accomplishments also include membership in the Tri-M Honor Society, earning a first degree black belt, achieving third place for a historical website and, according to The Stinger website, working as multimedia editor for the student newspaper.
He earned a third place Optics medal and a 10th place Dynamic Planet medal.
Zheng also is a member of Science Olympiad and the chess club at EHS.
Zheng plans to pursue a data science major with possible career goals in cybersecurity or as a computer network architect.
William Zheng
Zheng is recognized by EHS with the Excellence in Calculus award and as an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction.
Zheng is a member of student government and is business manager of The Stinger student newspaper at EHS.
He is a member of the EHS Academic Team, Science Olympiad and the physics, world cultures and chess clubs.
His volunteer projects include writing letters to Santa for younger kids and helping at elementary schools.
Zheng plans to study mechanical or biochemical engineering in college and become an engineer.
The National Merit® Scholarship Program also recently recognized EHS students Aiden Cannon, Michael Carter, Brayden Dang, Connor Iyengar, Andrew Lee, Griffin Messenlehner and Anna Smith as “Commended Students.”
