Egypt/Cementon: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293 planning October concerts

Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, 5209 Springmill Road, will be hosting concerts by the Castaway Trio Oct. 10, Cody Templeton Oct. 11, Third Hand Band Oct. 12, Stage Devils Oct. 26 and Uncle Smiley Duo Oct. 31. All concerts begin 7 p.m.

Aerobic fitness classes will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 10, 17 and 24 at Egypt Memorial Park, 4540 Hillcrest Lane. All fitness levels are welcome.

Bring water, a mat or towel and a set of dumbbells. There is a cost.

Laurel Fire Company, 5114 Third St., Cementon, is holding a basket raffle 5-10 p.m. Oct. 11 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 12. You need not be present to win.

Donations of baskets or gift cards are welcome.

Also, PopRoxx will perform at the fire company 7-10 p.m. Oct. 18. There is a cost.

Egypt Community Church, 4129 S. Church St., will host the Don Sunshine Ministry Make a Difference event, set for 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 13 in the sanctuary.

Also, the church will be holding a prayer vigil for our nation 7-8 p.m. Nov. 4 in the sanctuary. There will be no speakers, music or politics — just prayer.

All are invited to both events.

Egypt VFW Post 7293 will hold a Halloween costume party with music by the Boondock Barons 7 p.m. Oct. 18. Prizes will be awarded for the three best costumes.

Concert admission is free for members, but there is a cost for guests and nonmembers.

Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 4102 S. Church St., will hold its next seniors in action meeting 12:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the church hall.

A speaker will present information on Parkinson’s disease. Enjoy an afternoon of knowledge, fun and dessert.

New members are always welcome.

In addition, mark your calendar for Holy Trinity’s annual basket party, set for Nov. 2 and 3.

Tickets will be on sale Oct. 12 and 13, 19 and 20, and 26 and 27.

The Haunted Hayride in the Parkway, hosted by Whitehall Fire Department, continues 7-11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday throughout October at 4689 S. Church St.

There is a cost (cash only), but children under age 6 are admitted for free. Proceeds benefit the fire department.

The event will not be held during inclement weather.

Egypt VFW Post 7293 is hosting two crafty workshops in November.

A pumpkin succulent workshop will be held 3-4 p.m. Nov. 2. Make a Christmas tree, snowman or seascape 2 p.m. Nov. 16.

Warrior Brotherhood Motorcycle Club will be at Egypt VFW 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 11 collecting frozen turkeys for distribution to veteran families in need. Your donated turkey will be distributed by Valor Clinic Foundation.

Congratulations to the winners of Whitehall Lions Club’s 49th annual sweepstakes fundraiser. Sheri Hausman and Karen Yonney, of Whitehall, earned the $500 first prize; Bill Meckes, of Whitehall, won the $400 second prize; Cathie Clary, of Whitehall, won the $300 third prize; Al Thomas, of Coplay, received the $200 fourth prize; and Donald Hagenauer, of Whitehall, got the $100 fifth prize.

Proceeds of the fundraiser fund Whitehall Lions Club service projects. The Club meets 6:30 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main St., Egypt. Drop in at a meeting or email whitehall.lionsclub.lv@gmail.com for more information.

All orders must be submitted by Dec. 1. Gift cards will be ready for pickup at the church by Dec. 8.

Additionally, the youth group is running a clothing drive. Members are accepting new or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, belts, purses, bed and bath linens and stuffed animals. They cannot accept quilts, comforters, pillows or blankets. Shoes must be bagged separately.

All clean, wearable clothing and shoes are distributed for use by people in need. Drop off your items in the enclosed porch in the rear of the church. The clothing drive will continue into June 2025.
