Coplay: Coplay Saengerbund plans wine event for Oct. 13

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., will hold its annual Weinlesefest (grape dance) 3-6 p.m. Oct. 13, sponsored by the Saengerbund’s heritage committee.

A special selection of wine, delicious food, a wine-themed singalong, special dances, door prizes and great music are part of the day. Music will be by Emil Schanta Band.

Remember to wear your trachten (German outfits, such as dirndl, lederhosen, vests, hats, etc.).

There is a cost.

Paul Boyle, public works director, reminds residents garbage cans in excess of 30 gallons will not be collected.

If you have large items, call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups of items such as sofas, plastic-encased mattresses, chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

Coplay Athletic Club, located on the second floor of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is seeking new and renewed memberships. A gym membership costs $90 per year and $80 for renewals and prorated.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Coplay Social Hall, 165 Cherry St., is open for rentals for your special event.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Join the new Explorer Club for ages 12-14.

Meetings are set for 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has an special mailbox in front of the Post at 134 S. Second St. Worn-out American flags can be deposited into the mailbox for the Post to properly destroy them.

To join the Coplay Legion as a social member, call 610-262-7556. Social membership is open to all — veteran or not.

If your child or grandchild is a resident of Coplay, graduated from high school this year and is planning to attend college, university, trade school or the police academy, consider applying for a Coplay Scholarship Fund scholarship. Two $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in November.
