Bountiful baskets

Patrons enjoy St. Paul’s bake sale, social

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 105 E. 19th St., Northampton, held a successful basket social in the hall on the lower level of the church Oct. 5. A steady stream of patrons attended and were delighted to see the large amount of baskets from which to choose.

One item of interest was a beautiful autumn-themed quilt, created by Debbie Scheunemann, of Allentown. Her business is Cut the Scrap. Visit her Facebook page for more information about her products.

A highlighted basket was filled with adult beverages and was on display on a table away from the other baskets, such as kids’ themed. Another popular basket item included a framed President Ulysses S. Grant $50 bill.

Cheryl Ehro, of North Catasauqua, held the important volunteer role of ticket seller. The funds from the basket social benefited the church general fund.

The basket social also featured a bake sale, and the kitchen was open serving picnic fare foods. Ann Snyder and Paula Spiece, both of Northampton, ran the bake sale table, which offered a wide selection of cookies, cakes and other assorted baked goods.

Tom Ehro, of North Catasauqua, purchased a number of baked items for his enjoyment.

The kitchen team was kept busy during the event. The team included Barb Ziegler, of Whitehall; Barbara Szerensits, of Northampton; Sandy Kunkel, of Whitehall; Kathy Kaintz, of Northampton; and Julie Beck, of Northampton.

Other volunteers, such as Penny Farcus, of Bath, pitched in wherever she was needed to help raise funds for the church.

St. Paul’s UCC is an active congregation whose welcoming message to new members is “come grow with us as we plant seeds of love together.”

Call 610-261-2910 or visit the church’s website, stpaulsnorthamptonpa.org, for more information about the church and its activities.
