Lynn wins EPC title
Liberty tennis players found some success at the recently-held EPC tennis tournament at Freedom High School.
All three Hurricanes singles players made the finals with Helena Lynn winning the title. Lynn didn’t give up a point in any match at one singles. She knocked off eighth seed Sophia Kaufman of Emmaus 8-0 before advancing to defeat Central’s Bernadette Gasser, 10-0. In the finals, Lynn was a 10-0 winner over Alexandria Warsing of Parkland.
At two singles, Stephanie Zheng fell in a close finals match to Central’s Maddie Groff, 10-8. Groff was the two seed while Zheng was the one seed. Zheng defeated Freedom’s Misha Braski in the opening round 8-1 and then was a 10-3 winner over Stroudsburg’s Ava Marsh.
At three singles, Corinne Mumma of Liberty made it to the finals before losing a 10-6 contest to Central’s Valentina Munoz, the top seed. Mumma was the two seed and defeated Easton’s Allison James 8-3. Mumma then topped Stroudsburg’s Vasoula Skarlis 10-8 to advance to the final. Freedom’s Katie Ryer was the five seed but fell in her opening-round contest 8-1 to four-seed Kiera Miles of Parkland.
Liberty’s two doubles team of Abigail Mayes and Katie Bruno came in as the two seed and won over Madison Noona and Berlin Ulmer of Stroudsburg 8-5. The Hurricane due took on Emmaus’ Malena Stetz and Gab Tranguch, but fell in a tight, 10-8 match to the three seeds. Freedom’s Daniela Guzz and Viola Avitabile were the four seed, but fell to five seeds Lydia Moyer and Danielle Barnes of Nazareth, 8-5. Top seeds Aarohi Vaze and Kiana Miles of Parkland won the bracket.
Liberty’s Sarah Wang and Paulina Veraschaga, and Freedom’s Aurora Clark and Esha Kotadia, both fell in the opening round of the three doubles bracket. Wang and Veraschaga lost to Central’s Giada Montone and Carly Eisenhard 8-3, while the Mounties’ Julianna Vo and Shelbi Calligari beat Clark and Kotadia 8-5. Two seeds Brooke DiGiacomo and Nat Hillegass of Emmaus won the bracket.
At four doubles, Liberty’s Alaya Issa and Polina Dorman were seeded seventh and fell to Emmaus’ Kyle Gleason and Anshhi Kanani. Freedom’s Bailey Barber and Gwen Adriguez were the third seed and were upset by Easton’s Diya Soman and Eleanore Hornbake. No scores were listed. Gleason and Kanani went on to win the bracket.
