Kids get tough test on road vs. Easton
Northampton’s Billy Stuhldreher is confident that he is beginning to peak the right time.
The Konkrete Kids’ senior running back recently ran for 102 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 42-6 thumping of Pocono Mountain West (1-5). With the win, the Kids raised their record to 4-2 overall.
“I feel pretty confident right now,” stressed Stuhldreher. “The win really boosted our team chemistry and confidence, and I think we’re all getting into a rhythm now. We know what we’re going up against next Friday and the oncoming weeks, we just need to come and stick to our game plan. We can’t miss opportunities like we have in the past because those opportunities only come once.”
It also was a big night for former Catasauqua standout Aiden Hess, who returned a kick 68 yards and scored on a six-year run.
“I think my game has made a huge improvement since coming to Northampton,” said Hess. “I’ve got stronger, faster, and smarter. I think the coaches do a great job and are very good. I think there is a better chemistry here, the team is all very close and we work hard together.”
Head coach John Toman has been pleased with Stuhldreher’s efforts, and he also was happy to unload his bench in the rout. The Kids held a 28-6 halftime lead.
“Billy is running really well right now and is showing the ability to make players miss,” said Toman. “We felt comfortable by halftime to rest a couple players and we were able to do that. The defense continues to play consistent while we get valuable playing time for some younger players.
Quarterback Gavin Taff, who completed eight of 13 passes for 97 yards, knows the road ahead can be a bumpy one beginning at Easton Friday night.
“Stacking up wins gives the team more energy,” said Taff. “We are more confident facing tougher and better opponents.”
Toman is aware the bar will be raised against Easton (5-1) which is coming off a 43-14 victory over Stroudsburg and has won five straight.
“Easton is a big challenge for us,” stated Toman. “Going into Cottingham (Stadium) is always difficult. They are playing well, but I feel like we match up well. We both have team speed and play fast. It will be a great matchup.”
