West Catty Park shooter gets life imprisonment

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan has announced a life imprisonment sentence for a man charged with killing a woman and the attempted murder of a man in shootings that occurred in 2023 in a Whitehall Township park.

Rami Abouloh, 42, of Allentown, was convicted of murder of the first degree, attempted homicide and aggravated assault — all felonies of the first degree.

The jury returned that verdict May 31 after a trial before Judge Robert L. Steinberg. Abouloh was sentenced before Judge Steinberg Sept. 26.

In Pennsylvania, a conviction of murder of the first degree is an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole. Steinberg also ordered Abouloh to serve a consecutive 20 to 40 years in prison for the attempted murder of Frank Russo.

According to reports, just before 7 p.m. June 13, 2023, Whitehall Township police were called for reports of gunfire at West Catasauqua Park, 2301 Pine St.

Officers found Patricia White on the ground and unresponsive. White died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide by the Lehigh County coroner.

A second victim, identified as Russo, was also found nearby with multiple gunshot wounds. Russo suffered four gunshot wounds and required surgery.

Minutes after the shooting, Abouloh called 911 and identified himself as the shooter, Holihan said. He was taken into custody at his home on East Hamilton Street in Allentown, and the handgun recovered in the shooting was recovered from the home.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey D. Burd and Assistant District Attorney Sis-Obed Torres-Figueroa. The case was investigated by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Homicide Task Force detectives Moses Miller and James Bruchak, Whitehall Township Detective Matthew D. Reszek and assisted by the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County.
