Vera Cruz Halloween parade set for Oct. 16
It’s ‘boo’ time in Upper Milford Township.
The Vera Cruz Community Association will host the annual Vera Cruz Halloween Parade Oct. 16.
The rain date is Oct. 17.
Parade participants, including Halloween floats, will gather 6:30 p.m. at Mystic Chain Park, 3718 Main Road East and the parade will move out promptly 7 p.m. The Emmaus High School marching band is expected to participate. DJ Cesar Rosado will announce the parade.
The Upper Milford Mennonite Church will host its Light the Night Block Party 4-6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St.
Trick or treat is scheduled in the township 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Be aware Trick or Treat dates may vary by subdivision. Plus, motorists, please remain extra alert for trick-or-treaters.
In other township event news, the Upper Milford Historical Society will host an open house 1-6 p.m. at the township municipal building Oct. 20, briefly overlapping with the block party. Visitors are welcome to explore the exhibits and chat with members during the open house.
The historical society is scheduled to host a program by Woody Benner 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Benner will talk about his naval experiences, including his trip to the Arctic Circle.
Citizen’s Fire Company, perhaps better known as the Vera Cruz Fire Company, will host an open house to mark Fire Prevention Week 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the fire house, 4093 Main Road West.
The event will include a special visit by Smokey Bear as well as fire prevention awareness information, fire equipment displays, food, beverages and more.
Also Oct. 12, Southern Lehigh Library will offer the opportunity to read with therapy dogs at the next gathering of Tail Wagging Readers 11 a.m. to noon.
The Southern Lehigh Library includes Lower Milford Township residents among its patrons.
For Lower Milford Township residents in search of a good scare, Friends of the Southern Lehigh Library will host paranormal investigator Justin Torok 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the library 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.
Torok is the creator of the podcast “Ghost Encounters.”
The program is part of the Evenings with Friends series and there is a cost.
You may also want to check out an evening story time scheduled at the library 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Halloween costumes are encouraged for the event.

Rep. Milou Mackenzie, R-131st, will host a shredding event for constituents 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 19 at Hope Valley Community Church, 501 Graber Alley, Red Hill.
Constituents may bring up to four boxes or bags of documents per vehicle. Boxes should be approximately the size of a piece of carry-on luggage. The event is designed to help with secure disposal of documents containing sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and/or banking information.
The event is limited to shredding services for residents and does not include businesses.
The 131st District covers parts of Lehigh County including Lower Milford, Upper Milford and Upper Saucon townships, Salisbury Township’s Ward 03 [part, Division 01] and Coopersburg borough; Marlborough, Salford and Upper Hanover townships and East Greenville, Green Lane, Pennsburg and Red Hill boroughs in Montgomery County and Lower Saucon Township, Districts 01, 02, 04, 07 and 08 in Northampton County.

The Seed Farm’s Farm-to-Table Dinner is scheduled 4-7 p.m. in the farm’s greenhouse at sunset. The event will include a four-course dinner and music performances. There is a cost for tickets and proceeds benefit the farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road.

Stahl’s Pottery, 6826 Corning Road, Zionsville, will host its 17th annual fall Stahl’s Pottery Festival 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features tours of the potting sheds and kiln, pottery demonstrations and displays by area potters. The festival is held rain or shine.
Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 3 and 17 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. An online option also is available.
