Northampton Area Public Library: Library’s online auction ends Oct. 5

Northampton Area Public Library’s autumn online auction is here! The auction closes 11 p.m. Oct. 5.

The teen spooky watercolor ghost craft kit pickup begins Oct. 7.

Stitch and Chat, which is slowly turning into a bring-your-own-craft gathering, will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 8 for anyone who can make it.

All are welcome to the library board meeting 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10.

The autumn basket social is set for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 11 at Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave. You’ll have the opportunity to drop your tickets on more than 250 gift cards and baskets.

Ticket prices are discounted if bought before 8 p.m. Oct. 10.

In addition to the basket social, the library’s 50/50 will include some big-ticket items, such as an Apple Watch.

Only cash or check will be accepted.

The big-ticket and 50/50 items will be pulled around 7:45 p.m., so winners can take their prizes home. The basket items will be pulled after 8 p.m. and taken back to the library. Winners will be called beginning Oct. 14.

The Friends of the Library will be hosting a bake sale during the event. The bake sale is cash only, so plan ahead.

Additionally, the event center will be selling food, including the Hungarian staples you know and love and more.

An outdoor family story hour will be held 4:30 p.m. Oct. 14.

We’ll bring the parachute and stories. You bring yourselves in comfortable clothes for the weather and maybe a blanket or other item to sit on.

If there is rain, the event will be held inside 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

Eric Mintel and his spirit medium, Dominic Sattele, will be at the library 6 p.m. Oct. 16 to spotlight some of the ghost stories from their local television series. The Paranormal Projection Room is open to all teens and adults.

The library will close 5 p.m. Oct. 17 for the Jack Frost parade. Feel free to park in our lot and sit out in front of the library for a great view!

A teen craft kit for glittery Halloween slime will be available Oct. 21 for those who signed up.

Medicare open enrollment starts Oct. 15, so we have experts coming in to help explain some of the different options involved with Medicare plans. United Healthcare’s Kathy Moses will be at the library 6 p.m. Oct. 21 to explain the options United Healthcare may have for you or your loved one, and Toni Saby will be back 1 p.m. Oct. 22 to discuss the options she may have to save you money on the health care you need.

In relation to mental health, Christina Lieb, from The Care Team, will presenting the Cure for Loneliness presentation 6 p.m. Oct. 22.

Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy is deeply concerned about America’s public health, especially where the epidemic of loneliness and isolation is concerned. Social connections are a must these days — and not just on a screen.

Mayzi will host a STEM workshop for exploding pumpkins 2 p.m. Oct. 26.

The Once Upon a Crime group will be discussing women murderers 6 p.m. Oct. 28.

Be there, unless you’re sensitive to violence. In that case, please stay home.

The Well-Read, Badly Behaved Book Club will be holding two sessions Oct. 28 to discuss Clare MacIntosh’s “The Last Party.” Both sessions are open to anyone who has read the book, so come at the most convenient time for yourself — 1:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Tech Tutoring is held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays by appointment only.

Early literacy storytimes return. They will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays for infants, 10 a.m. Wednesdays for toddlers and 10 a.m. Thursdays for preschoolers.

The adult Laid-Back Book Club’s discussion this month will be on Bridget Collins’ “The Silent Factory.”
