Assistant Superintendent Dr. Maureen Leeson announced Sept. 23 that the Pennsylvania Art Educators Association has recognized the Bethlehem Area School District for its outstanding contributions to visual arts. The Pennsylvania Art Education Association actively supports and promotes visual art education through professional development, leadership and service.
Activity reports were given at the BASD board meeting by Freedom HS Senior Brady Roche and Liberty HS senior Molly Patrick. Both high schools are busy with sports and other activities.
Recommendations of the board were voted on and passed. Discussion of these items took place at previous committee meetings and were then placed on the agenda for a vote.
The Facilities Committee recommended a parking lot agreement with the borough of Freemsburg at Gerald Yob Community Park, where the borough is building an amphitheater and community center. The borough requested adding a lot on district property directly under the PPL high tension power lines along Cambria Street, which is not conducive to future school development. The borough will cover all costs and the lot will be available for events at Freemansburg ES.
The committee also recommended Altronics, Inc. for monitoring, inspections and elevator monitoring during the 2024-25 school year at a cost not to exceed $51,434.
