One of the more interesting contests at this year’s The Great Allentown Fair was a Scrapple Eating Contest.
As with traditional hot dog and pie eating contests, the goal was to eat as much scrapple as possible in two minutes.
Contestants used a variety of techniques to scarf down the Pennsylvania Dutch treat made with fried pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour.
Some contestant preferred using forks, though they were generally slower than the others who just used their hands, while making quite a mess of themselves.
Joshua Krady, of Telford, devoured 2.569 pounds of scrapple in two minutes to take home the first place award.
Coming in second was Keith Croissette of Hereford and third place went to Cory Roman of Barto.
According to Zach Stoltzfus, sales manager for Stoltzfus Meats, the contest should return to the fair on an annual basis.
