LHS tops Freedom

It was a win that Liberty needed and Ellis Corr came through for the Hurricanes in their rivalry showdown against Freedom last Friday.

Corr scored both goals for Liberty in their 2-1 victory over the Pates to snap a four-game skid and push them to 5-7 on the year.

Head coach Jill Dorn knows every game is vital for the Hurricanes playoff chances the rest of the way and a win over their rival was a hopeful catapult with six games left on the schedule.

“That win was definitely hard earned as it always is when such a rivalry is present,” said Dorn. “Coming off a difficult couple games with Nazareth, Emmaus and Easton, the goal was to get through healthy and ready to finish strong. That win and the remainder of the season is very important for us.”

The Hurricanes play Hazleton, Bethlehem Catholic and Northampton this week, needing every result in their favor if they want to make a playoff push.

“This week we’ll be challenged and we need to present one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves,” said Dorn.

Freedom (3-6-1) saw their playoff chances dip even further with the loss to Liberty. The Pates have East Stroudsburg South, Parkland and Pen Argyl on tap this week, needing to grab at least two wins if they want to make their final week of the season interesting.

Bethlehem Catholic (1-11) plays Liberty and Wilson this week.
