LHS girls win 2

Liberty’s girls cross country team registered two wins last week with a 25-32 victory over Allentown Central Catholic and a 15-47 victory over Whitehall on Sept. 17 at Camp Olympic, Emmaus.

“As a whole, everybody stepped up,” said Liberty coach Kevin Bush. “We had a couple people get injured during the course of the race, and Kendall Terefinko really stepped up, and Zoey Sobrinski stepped up. Having two top girls (Katie Drabouski and Elizabeth McClarin) is really helpful. It kind of brings everybody up, training wise.”

Emmaus won the day with victories over Liberty, Freedom, and Bethlehem Catholic.

“Emmaus is an incredibly good team,” Coach Bush said. “We took our shots today, and they were just the better team. We ran great, and they were just better, and that happens.”

Madelyn McCartney won the girls race for the Hornets with a time of 18:52.

Drabouski took third place in 19:56, and McClarin came in fourth in 20:09.

Also from Liberty, Lilah McClarin placed 15th in 22:38, and Emma Haas finished in 17th place in 22:46.

“I was trying to push myself as much as I could and stay consistent,” said McClarin. “The end is pretty flat, so it felt really nice to sprint it in.”

McClarin and Haas have crossed the finish line within seconds of each other for the last two meets.

“My thought was just do it for the team. We spent countless hours trying to build a great team community within the girls team, so that was my motivation,” said Haas. “It was a lot of gradual hills and a lot of foliage on the ground. I went out a little too fast. I’m an 800/400 runner during track season, so I have an inclination to go a little faster at the beginning. My goal, always, is to start fast and end fast, and I did that today.”

Freedom’s Taylor Vidumsky placed 20th with a time of 23:16, and Bethlehem Catholic’s Remiah Rivera placed 32nd in 25:47.

“This course was one of the harder ones,” said Rivera. “The hills, it was hot, but you’ve just got to keep pushing. I thought my start was good, but it was the middle of the second mile where I was getting tired and gassed, but once I got to the third mile, I felt better.”

Freedom beat Whitehall, 26-31.

“It was a good race,” said Freedom coach Bob Thear. “Taylor, last week, went out a little too quick. She was definitely a little more conservative this week. Overall, she had a good race. The girls did, in general.”
