Tickets available for Homecoming dance

Following an eventful first couple of weeks, students are settling into a school year still buzzing with action and events.

The Emmaus High School Homecoming dance will take place 6-9 p.m. Oct. 5. Tickets for the dance can be purchased during lunches until Oct. 3 – students who are not at EHS during lunch hours can instead buy the tickets at the main office as well. Payment can be made in the form of cash or as a check made out to Emmaus High School. Outside guests are not permitted at the Homecoming dance.

For seniors applying to colleges this fall, some local universities offer what are known as “Instant Decision Days” to EHS students Oct. 1 to Nov. 15. These schools include Commonwealth University (Oct. 1), DeSales University (Oct. 10), Moravian University (Oct. 10), Millersville University (Oct. 16), Kutztown University (Oct. 18), Cedar Crest College (Oct. 21), East Stroudsburg University (Nov. 4), Wilkes University (Nov. 14) and Lehigh Carbon Community College (Nov. 15). Students must submit an application to the university as well as fill out the Google form for that school available on the EHS website in order to participate. Students will receive an admissions decision on each school’s respective date. The results of Instant Decision Day are nonbinding, meaning students are in no way obligated to attend that university if accepted.

EHS will administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery exam Oct. 10 for any student in grades 10-12 interested in joining the armed forces or learning more about potential careers. Students must register using the Google form on EHS’ website by Oct. 4. The ASVAB will be available again March 24, 2025.

In order to support its well-loved therapy dog program, East Penn will partner with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms during its opening night Oct. 12. For every discounted upper-level $22 ticket purchased for the Oct. 12 game, $5 will go to the East Penn School District’s therapy dog program. The district’s three therapy dogs (Branch, Mario and Tokyo) will all be present at the event as well. The sale ends 5:05 p.m. Oct. 12, two hours before the game’s start.

In the summer of 2026, EHS students will have the opportunity to visit Spain and Portugal. More details will be distributed at two informational meetings, each 6 p.m Oct. 2 and Oct. 10, respectively.

Among EHS’ new initiatives this year is free after-school homework help. Every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of 2024 – unless otherwise noted – teachers will be available to any student who wants more help with homework, understanding concepts or how to effectively study for exams. The program runs in the library 2:30-3:30 p.m. biweekly and students do not need to sign up in advance to participate. However, they need to make sure they have transportation available 3:30 p.m. for pick up.
