Holiday tree lighting ceremony Dec. 6
The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee met Sept. 16 to discuss the success of recently held community events and plan for upcoming events.
On Aug. 6, the advisory committee members were present during a well attended National Night Out which was held at Salisbury Elementary School. National Night Out is a police sponsored community event aimed at fostering positive relationships between residents, police officers and other first responders. Due to heavy downpours during the event, it was moved indoors and attendees enjoyed free food provided by Kasey Lynn’s on Broadway and Mission BBQ, music, face painting, a basket raffle and a visit from the So Cool ice cream truck all while mingling with neighbors and first responders.
Another successful community event was the Sept. 14 AM Radio Tribute Band concert held at Franko Park. The weather was beautiful and nearly 200 township residents traveled back in time to the music of the 1960s and 1970s while enjoying delicious food offerings available from the Top of the Hill Grill and the So Cool ice cream truck.
The committee is already solidifying plans for next year’s concert and Recreation Director Genny Baillie proposed adding a concert to kick off the summer season.
You may not be thinking about Christmas but the advisory committee has been planning the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony all year. The family friendly event will be held 6 p.m. Dec. 6 weather permitting. Electricity has been hooked up at Franko Park and plans are in the works for activities, music and a visit from a familiar jolly fellow.
The next meeting of the recreation advisory committee will be held 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at in the Salisbury Township municipal building.
