Sept. 28

The 22nd annual Lower Milford Fall Festival is scheduled 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Coopersburg. This year’s festival theme “It’s a Tail-wagging Good Time!” puts a focus on the furry (and not so furry) members of our family and features a Cutest Pet Photo Contest (voting is currently live online and winners will be announced at the festival) and a pet parade during the event, that will go around the festival grounds for one loop noon. Visitors can expect all of the familiar favorites including free tractor-pulled wagon rides, live musical entertainment and activities and events for young and old. Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company will host a community dedication ceremony for its new fire station, 955 S. Ott St., 11 a.m. The event will include a raffle as well as food trucks.

The Lehigh Valley Chorus, Sweet Adelines International, will host a cash bingo 1 p.m. at Jordan UCC, 1837 Church Road, Allentown. Doors open 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at a discounted price if purchased in advance. For more information, email nettylvc@gmail.com.

The Emmaus Lioness Lions Club will host a chicken potpie and bingo fundraiser event at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 139 N. Fourth St., Emmaus. Doors open 1 p.m.; bingo begins 2 p.m. There is a cost for tickets, which include dinner and bingo. Attendees also are welcome to donate a pair of new pajamas for children in need (sizes newborn through 18). Those who donate will receive a special bingo card. Oct. 1

Emmaus Garden Club meeting noon at Bethel Bible Fellowship Church (new location), 418 Elm St., Emmaus. Enter at the back of the building/gymnasium. Parking will be available at Bethel and St. John’s UCC, 139 N. Fourth St. The program is “Plants of Murder and Mayhem.” Plants have been employed throughout history for both good and bad uses. Learn how plants in your own gardens or close habitats have been used for nefarious deeds. Also, learn about some common ornamental plants you may want to avoid due to their toxic properties. Sue Drabic, a Penn State gardener, will present this “spooky” program. All are welcome. Light refreshments served.

Kalmbach Memorial Park will host the first program in the two-part series titled “The History of America Through Popular Music 1840-1970” 7-8 p.m. at the park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie. The Flynn Brothers music duo will present songs from composer Stephen Foster, The Civil War period, Tin Pan Alley and The Jazz Age. The series closes 7-8 p.m. Oct. 8 with the music of the Great Depression, World War II, rock ‘n’ roll, protest songs of the 1960s and more. The Seed Farm’s Farm-to-Table Dinner is scheduled 4-7 p.m. in the farm’s greenhouse at sunset. Diners will enjoy a four-course dinner, cocktails and music performances. Oct. 6

St. John’s Lutheran Church 100th anniversary celebration starts with a traditional Sunday service, including a German part and hymns performed and offered at the very first St. John’s Church Service Oct. 5, 1924. After the service attendees will enjoy a fellowship organized by the stewardship committee that will include refreshments, baked goods, tours, photos and history of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Emmaus, over the last century.

Citizens Fire Company of Upper Milford Township will host its second annual Fire Prevention Week Open House 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, 4093 Main Road West. The event will include a special appearance by Smokey Bear, fire prevention awareness information, food, beverages and more.

The Salisbury High School girls basketball team will host a cornhole tournament starting 1 p.m. at Taphouse & Eatery by McCall Collective, 7743 Hamilton Blvd., Breinigsville. The Vera Cruz Community Association will host the annual Vera Cruz Halloween parade 7 p.m. Expected participants include the Emmaus High School marching band. DJ Cesar Rosado will announce the parade. The rain date is Oct. 17.

Oct. 19

The Emmaus Halloween Committee hosts the annual Emmaus Halloween Parade 7 p.m. The rain date is 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Visit the website www.emmausparade.com for details.

State representative Milou Mackenzie, R-131st, will host a shredding event 10 a.m. to noon at Hope Valley Community Church, 501 Graber Alley, Red Hill. Constituents may shred up to four boxes or bags of documents per vehicle. Boxes should be approximately the size of a piece of carry-on luggage. The event is designed to assist with disposal of documents containing sensitive information such as Social Security numbers or banking information. The event is limited to homeowners. The 131st District covers parts of Lehigh County including Lower Milford, Upper Milford and Upper Saucon townships, Salisbury Township’s Ward 03 [part, Division 01] and Coopersburg borough; Marlborough, Salford and Upper Hanover townships and East Greenville, Green Lane, Pennsburg and Red Hill boroughs in Montgomery County and Lower Saucon Township, Districts 01, 02, 04, 07 and 08 in Northampton County.

The Salisbury Athletic Booster Club will hold a clothing drive 9 a.m. to noon. Donations of unwanted clothing and household items may be brought to the auxiliary gym at Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St. A list of acceptable items is available on the website clothingdrive.net.
