Catasauqua: Community thrift shop holding back-to-school half-price sale

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge Street, will continue its back-to-school half-price sale on everything in the store until the end of September. Regular hours at the shop are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The shop is always happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing, household items and toys during store hours. Proceeds from the thrift shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

Catasauqua Garden Club next meets 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at Slovak Center Social Club, 1233 Fifth St., North Catasauqua. Linc Coffin, a Pennsylvania Master Gardener, will present Hello Houseplants, an outline of many of the things one needs to know about houseplants, including the safe moving of houseplants indoors.

Club members will present artistic and horticultural exhibits for judging.

Curious and friendly visitors are always welcome.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., is sponsoring a basket raffle 4-7 p.m. Oct. 4 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5. Tickets will be drawn Oct. 5, and winners will be notified by phone.

All proceeds benefit Peaceable Kingdom, a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter whose mission is to provide care, protection and assistance to animals in need.

Public Library of Catasauqua, 302 Bridge St., will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with a block party, set for noon-4 p.m. Oct. 12. There will be games, face painting, food, a puppet show and wildlife ambassadors. There will also be a special guest — Bruce the bear.
