An Alburtis man is charged in a fatal drug overdose in 2022.
In a news release dated Sept. 20, District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan announced the arrest of Nathaniel Tilahun, 28, of Alburtis.
According to court documents available online Sept. 22, Tilahun was unable to post bail and was in Lehigh County Jail.
According to the news release and court documents, Tilahun, is charged with alleged drug delivery resulting in death, a felony of the first degree; criminal use of a communications facility, a felony of the third degree; possession with intent to deliver, a felony and simple possession, a misdemeanor.
Tilahun was arraigned on the above charges Sept. 19. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 25.
The news release outlines the incident in which Tilahun is charged as follows:
At 11:37 p.m. Oct. 5, 2022, Alburtis police responded to a residence along West Second Street in the borough for an unresponsive person.
“Caylin Strong, 23, who lived at the home, was pronounced dead” at the residence, according to authorities.
“The Lehigh County Coroner determined Strong died from fentanyl toxicity and her death was ruled accidental,” according to the news release.
An investigation determined Strong purchased pills from a person identified as Tilahun, according to authorities.
In addition to borough police and the coroner’s office, investigators included Detective Matthew Tretter with the Lehigh County Drug Task Force.
