BETHLEHEM social calendar September 25

ROTUNDA EXHIBIT: The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission presents an invitational exhibition: “Another Point of View: 4 Visually Impaired Artists” that highlights the work of Mary Ann Dunwoodie, Michael Freeman, Dianne Michels and Terry Newhard at the Bethlehem city hall Rotunda Gallery from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4. The exhibition brings together four visually impaired artisans with varying degrees of vision who use their personal creative process as a means of self-expression and inspiration. There will be an artist reception oSunday, Oct. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church St. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

APPLE FEST: Join the Lutz-Franklin Schoolhouse Oct. 12 for its annual Apple Festival. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4216 Countryside Lane, Hellertown. Activities include antique tractors, crafts, schoolhouse tours and a cakewalk. There will also be apple desserts for sale and the Delicious Dogs and More food truck will be on property for a tasty meal. The event is free and everyone is welcome.

OPEN GATE FARM TOURS: Scheduled for Oct. 4 and 5 from noon to 5 p.m., the tours have been a local tradition for more than four decades! Each year farms throughout Northampton County “open their gates” to the public to help educate the community on exactly what they do! Come discover the wide array of farms that are growing fruits and vegetables, making cheese and yogurt, training horses, raising alpacas and so much more!

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: Sunday, Oct. 6 to Saturday, Oct. 12 City of Bethlehem Fire Department reminds everyone that Fire Prevention Week 2024 will be Oct. 6 to 12. The theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you.” The department will partner with the American Red Cross in a “Sound the Alarm” event on Oct. 12. The two organizations will canvass neighbors, knocking on doors to ensure that dwellings have working smoke alarms and educating people about home fire safety.

FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNEY: The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley will be hosting a Gold Ribbon Bowl Flag Football Tournament from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at Grange Park, Allentown. Event will be held rain, snow or shine.

Registrants must be age 18 or older at the time of event.

To register, teams must have five total players ready to register.

First person from that team can create the team at registration.

All remaining players may join the team at their time of registration.

Registration ends at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 23.

THIS AMERICA: Join the Bethlehem Area Public Library Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. for a captivating evening with award-winning author Nate Schweber as he presents the untold story of Bernard and Avis DeVoto’s fight to protect America’s national parks and public lands during the McCarthy era. The presentation, based on Schweber’s acclaimed book, This America of Ours, will explore how the DeVotos helped shape the future of conservation in the United States, as well as the little-known friendship between Avis DeVoto and iconic chef Julia Child.
