Northampton: Queenship of Mary to hold garage sale Sept. 21 in social hall

Queenship of Mary Catholic Church will have its annual garage sale 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 21 in the social hall of the church, 1324 Newport Ave. Entrance to the social hall is off Stewart Street.

Breakfast will be held 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 22 in the social hall at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2181 Washington Ave. There is a cost. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Northampton Area Public Library is currently accepting donations for its annual autumn online auction and its basket social. If you would like to donate, bring your items to the library by Sept. 21.

The auction will be held Sept. 29-Oct. 5, and the basket social is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 11.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 19th Street and Lincoln Avenue, will be holding a basket social, scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 5. There will be a wide variety of baskets available.

A bake sale is also part of the day, and refreshments will be available for purchase. There is a cost.

The 75th annual Jack Frost Parade is scheduled for Oct. 17 in the borough.

The parade starts 7 p.m. and follows the same route: Starting at Northampton Recreation Center on Lerchenmiller Drive, it will progress to Smith Lane and then Laubach Avenue. It will turn left onto 19th Street and left again onto Main Street. It will end at the recreation center.

Northampton Exchange Club, which organizes the annual event, will be collecting canned goods for Northampton Area Food Bank. High school students will be pushing grocery carts along the parade route. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations with them and place them in the cart as it passes by.

If you are a veteran who has served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces from Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, you are eligible to receive a Vietnam veteran lapel pin. This is available regardless of where you served.

A surviving spouse of a deceased veteran who had served during that period of eligibility may also receive a pin.

Northampton Joint Veterans Association, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense as authorized by Congress, will be presenting the pins at the local group’s Veterans Day ceremony 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the veterans plaza, 14th Street and Washington Avenue.
