Mabel A. Heffner

formerly of Lower Macungie Township

Mabel Anna Heffner, 100, of Allentown, formerly of Lower Macungie Township and Emmaus, died Sept. 13, 2024. She was the wife of the late Kenneth A. Heffner for 54 years until his death in 1999. Born in Fleetwood, she was the daughter of the late Katie (Heller) and Lawson Hoch.

She had a long history of church and community service working as a Girl Scout leader, with the Cub Scouts in Emmaus, teaching Bible school at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Emmaus, greeting and teaching Bible school at Bethany United Methodist Church, Wescosville.

In her later years she was a member of Morgenland Union Church, Orefield.

She was active in the Emmaus Newcomers’ Club, the Lower Macungie Senior Citizens, the AARP Lower Lehigh Chapter 4150 and the Woman’s Club of Emmaus where she earned numerous first and second place awards for her sewing of clothing, quilts, dolls and pillows.

She collected napkins and turtles from all over the world. She was a world traveler who visited many of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii and traveled to Australia, New Zealand and numerous countries in Europe. She also cruised through the Panama Canal.

On one trip she visited a Moravian church her forefathers built in Basel, Switzerland.

When not traveling she was an avid bridge player and for many years enjoyed her vacation home at Lake Wynonah. She enjoyed cooking and baking homemade pies.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheila K. Renner and her husband, Curtis, of Orefield; son, Dale K. and his wife, Rebecca, of Alburtis; daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Macungie; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth A. II; sisters, Emeline, Ella, Katherine; brother, John.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, Hope Cemetery, Dryville, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, 19522.

Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
