Fresh produce collected for Grace Lutheran Church food pantry

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p .m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m to5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The library has partnered with Plant a Row Lehigh Valley to collect fresh produce for the food pantry at Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie. Donations are accepted 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 8 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.

SAT Prep for Teens will be offered 4-7 p.m. Sept. 23. Students will practice taking a SAT mock test.

There will be sensory coloring and crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 and Oct. 22.

A Voice for All: Censorship – a program for adults – will be offered 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and Oct. 25. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

There will be a video game club meeting for grades 2-12 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 1.

There will be a sensory movie matinee 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 and 15 for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 2 is “Tom Lake” by Ann Patchett. The book club meets virtually.

Sunny Day Storytime will be held 10-10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 for children ages 2-5 years. This story time will be held outdoors; in case of inclement weather, it will move indoors with a limited number of spaces available.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 to discuss books and programs. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

There will be a sensory game day 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 8 for adults with disabilities and their caregivers.

There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years 10-11 a.m. Oct. 9.

There will be a baby play day 10-11 a.m. Oct. 10 for infants and toddlers.

Rumpelstiltskin story time with Zoellner Arts Center will be held 10-10:30 a.m. Oct. 11.

There will be a movie afternoon for youth and teens 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 14 to watch “Hotel Transylvania.”

Books & Beyond will meet at Wegmans Food Market Café 6:30-8 p.m. p.m. Oct. 14 to discuss books, music, movies, TV, travel and more. The next meeting Nov. 4 will be a discussion of “Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice” by Bill Browder.

There will be a spooky story time 10-11 a.m. Oct. 15. There will be Halloween stories and a craft.

Paws to Read will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 17 for all ages. Lehigh Valley Pet Therapy dogs and handlers will come to meet young patrons.

The Alburtis Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 to discuss “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-8 p.m. Oc. 22 to make a calligraphy creation.

There will be a movie matinee for adults 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 24 featuring the movie “The Emperor’s Club.”

Get in the Game for all ages will meet 1-3 p.m. Oct. 29 to play games.

The fall book sale has been canceled.

There will be a senior citizens expo 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. In addition to exhibitors from local, state and federal agencies and senior focused organizations, there will be free health screenings and a free light lunch. The event is sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a Harvest Festival at the Bortz Log House in Wescosville 2-4 p.m. Oct. 6. House tours will be available. The museum will be closed.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will host two screenings of “The Fries Rebellion” and the behind-the-scenes video 6:30 and 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Lower Macungie Community Center, 3400 Brookside Road. Admission is free for teachers and society members.

The film can also be seen at the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History at Camp Olympic barn 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

A program on emergency preparedness will be offered 10:30 a.m. to noon or 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the community center. In partnership with Macungie Ambulance, Lehigh County EMA and the CERT team, there will be a informative session on how to stay prepared for a disaster.

A community program on Alzheimer’s education will be presented 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. There is no rain date.

The Ancient Oaks Women’s Organization will hold an ice cream social at their next meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at St. Paul’s UCC in Trexlertown. Women from Ancient Oaks and the surrounding area are invited. Come for fun and fellowship.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on a basket raffle, fire prevention, fire truck tours, state police, souvenir photos, coloring activities, face painting, a moon bounce, Macungie Ambulance, food trucks and more.

Lower Macungie Township is sponsoring a Halloween Bash for youth ages 3-10 years with parents 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the community center. There will be a costume contest with prizes, a DJ, games, drinks and snacks. Registration is limited.

There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by Mackenzie, R-187th, Delizioso Italian Grill and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot. Residents can bring up to four bags or boxes.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Sept. 17 and Oct. 1 and 15 for lunch at the community center.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Oct. 10 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues will be collected; bring both cards. Christmas party tickets for Dec. 5 will be available at the October meeting. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 19th Annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of nonperishable food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted during that same time through Nov. 27. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will be collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are located in the lobby through Dec. 27.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly collection of grass clippings continues through the week of Sept. 23 with collection on the day after regular trash day collection. Leaf collection begins Oct. 14 and continues through Nov. 29. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.
