Dennis Hinkel receives proclamation

During the Sept. 5 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Dennis Hinkel was given a proclamation upon his retirement for all his years of service within the township. Board President Brian Higgins said Hinkel was involved with township activities for 50 years. “He was a valuable asset to the township,” Higgins said.

Hinkel was an auditor, a tax collector, a supervisor, involved with the fire police, on the planning commission and sewer authority. He was also the director of public works.

Ordinance 2024-01 was approved which allows for open space debt financing.

Traffic signal upgrades along Hamilton Boulevard are being considered for bidding. The intersections involved are the Bypass and Kressler Road, Route 78 and Hamilton Boulevard and Kressler Road and Hamilton Boulevard.

Martine Minninger has resigned from the audit advisory committee. Her resignation was accepted with regret.

There was an update about refuse collection. Residents are questioning what to do with their old trash receptacle. It was said to put it out with the trash; hopefully not everybody will be doing so at the same time.

There was an executive session held regarding land acquisition.
