Annual golf outing raises money for others

The Emmaus Rotary Club held its annual golf outing at Brookside Country Club Sept. 9.

Rotary President Eric Loch said this fundraising event last year helped the organization purchase approximately 18,000 meals for students in the East Penn School District. Loch reminded the community that even though East Penn is often described as a wealthier school district, there are many students who are in need and this fundraiser has helped feed these young people the past few years.

This event usually nets about $25,000 for the group to use for its missions around the world as well as scholarships. The cost for the meals program is about $30,000. Loch said the Emmaus Rotary Club “had been relying on grants to assist in paying for the cost of the meals, but those grants have now dried up.”

As a result, the Emmaus Rotary Club is looking for corporate sponsors who could help feed students in East Penn whose families could be struggling with rising food costs these past few years. Interested corporations are encouraged to reach out to the Emmaus Rotary Club for more information.

Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day with perfect weather for golfing. They enjoyed boxed lunches before moving throughout 18 holes of golf on the green. Golfers organized themselves into teams of four to compete against other teams for prizes.

After approximately four hours of golfing, the participants enjoyed hors d’oeuvres on the patio. The cost of participation was $225-250 for individuals or $1,000 for a group of four with all the proceeds going directly to the Emmaus Rotary Foundation to support its community-driven initiatives.

The golf tournament is the major fundraiser of the year and the Emmaus Rotary Club counts on the participation of community members and its sponsors to help them in their missions locally and internationally.

The event sponsor for this year’s outing was Edward Jones, financial adviser and Jeff A. McElhaney Jr., CFP, AAMS. However, numerous other groups contributed as sponsors as well.

According to their website, the Emmaus Rotary Club is a community-focused organization dedicated to service above self. Its members are committed to making a positive impact through various local and international projects hoping to improve the lives of others in education, health and community development. Meals, medical equipment, scholarships, park improvements and library resources have all been purchased through the foundation to help the local community.
