ALCOHOL/SUICIDE TASK FORCE: Northampton County is holding the second annual Live Well Be Well community empowerment event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northeast MS. The Northampton County Drug & Alcohol and Suicide Prevention Task Force curated an array of activities, keynote speaker Tony Hoffman, and opportunities to receive Recovery and Mental Health Resources. Remarks begin at noon. All residents of Northampton County are welcome to attend this free event, which is open to all age groups. There will be recovery and mental health resource booths available for those seeking support or information.

WRITERS’ GROUP: Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group (GLVWG) will hold its monthly meeting from 10 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Sept. 28. The meeting is offered in a hybrid format – in-person at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer, and online via Zoom.

From 11 a.m.-noon, Angel Ackerman, author, journalist and owner of Parisian Phoenix Publishing, will give an overview of author newsletters. From 1 to 3 p.m., Ackerman will lead a workshop focused on launching a newsletter in Substack.

FIND THE GOOD DAY: The Junior League of the Lehigh Valley (JLLVPA), a leading women’s

organization dedicated to making a positive impact in our communities, is thrilled to celebrate “Find the Good Day” Sept. 19. This special day of unity and compassion aims to spread kindness, uplift others and inspire positive change across the Lehigh Valley.

The JLLVPA is celebrating Find the Good Day by partnering with The Kindness Project, a local nonprofit that provides free support to foster families across eastern Pennsylvania by offering essential items for the children and tweens in their care.

The JLLVPA is providing over 250 Back to School Bedtime Bundles to foster families, which will be packed with nighttime comforts for children.

YMCA PROGRAMS: River Crossing YMCA (formerly Greater Valley YMCA and YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties) is launching its first free community Pathway programs in YMCA branches across the Lehigh Valley. Pathway programs, which are 100 percent donor-supported, are free to participants and open to the community, with no membership required to enroll.

Veterans Wellness Pathway program for military veterans and their partners, Healthy Horizons Pathway program for those in the mental health recovery process, and Healthy Lifestyles, a Pathway program for those at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, begin at the Allentown branch Sept. 23, last for 12 weeks, and are open to the entire community.

The Y also announced the relaunch of the seventhth Grade Initiative, which provides free membership to seventh graders at the Bethlehem, Nazareth and Easton branches, along with the Suburban North branch in Catasauqua and Slate Belt branch in Pen Argyl.
