EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently enrolled in my senior year at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members, parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mother’s name is Kathy, my father’s name is Dennis and my sister’s name is Tori.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. I quite enjoy both math and physics. I don’t think I can pick a favorite between the two. I like them a bunch probably due to both being very interesting topics that I am also quite good at.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. In 10th grade, I won an underclassman award for excellence in Latin. In 11th grade, I earned medals for the East Penn Conference in Chess and Science Olympiad, PA State Scholastic Chess Championship and Science Olympiad Regional Finals. I also won an underclassman award for excellence in calculus last year. I have earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. I was also accepted for a summer internship at Sonoma State University in a partnership with NASA in the summer of 2024.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I have been on the academic team starting in 10th grade, the chess team starting 11th grade (I also partake in Chess Club since 10th grade) and the Science Olympiad team starting 11th grade. I have participated in Latin Club since ninth grade and was co-president last year. I have also played flag football outside of school since fall of fourth grade. These activities have impacted my high school experience by allowing me to spend more time with people who have similar interests to me.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. In mid to late eighth grade, I was having a really tough time mentally, and unlike some previous times beforehand, it impacted my schoolwork. That time was probably the worst time I’ve had for that long. Since that time, I’ve now gotten back to myself.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. This early in the year, my goal is currently just to get into a college that will be good for me to go to both academically and socially.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. This is a very difficult question. If I had to pick one, I suppose I would go with Nikola Tesla to better understand his rivalry with Edison and what, if any, ideas Edison stole from him.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. Hopefully I’ll wind up being remembered for a variety of things, but if I had to pick one, I would say for trying to help classmates/peers if they don’t understand something which I do.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Know what you can and cannot do. If you know you aren’t currently capable of doing something, don’t try to, it will most likely lead to disappointment. If you know you can, go for it, don’t hold back. If you’re unsure, seriously consider trying it, you may surprise yourself with how much you’re capable of.
