Delay in Church Street project announced

At the Sept. 3 Macungie Borough Council meeting, the Church Street project was discussed.

The main topic was about the timing of the plans. UGI needs to upgrade their system which involves excavating in the street. UGI cannot complete their portion of the project during the time needed and therefore a time extension has become necessary. The timing has extended beyond what was the original date. With this in mind, additional grants will be sought. The date for completion is now March 2026.

A one-time request for $10,000 was made by the Lower Macungie Township Fire Department for capital improvements. This is not an annual or recurring payment. Council approved the request.

Public works requested approval to purchase a welder and spool gun for $1,029.13. This was approved.

Kay Builders, through their attorneys Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, made a request for release of 15% maintenance security reduction in the amount of $543,788.42. Council denied the request.

There is interest is having Hometown Hero banners in Macungie. This request is being investigated with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
