Sept. 13
Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will hold a free takeout community meal 4-5:30 p.m. The menu will be chicken potpie, salad, roll w/ butter and a dessert. Just follow signs and drive around to the back of the church and packed meals will be handed out to you.
Sept. 14
Old Macungie School reunion open to everyone who attended the old Macungie School, 1-4 p.m. at Macungie Institute. Reservations are required. For more information, check Facebook or email friendsofmacungieinstitute@gmail.com.

Sept. 15
Jerusalem Western Salisbury Lutheran Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown, will host the Pioneer Band of Allentown 1 p.m. The concert will be held rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to help those in need.
Sept. 18
The Emmaus Historical Society’s monthly program will be held 7 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary School in Emmaus. Please note the change of venue for this program. The school will be celebrating its 25th anniversary and tours of the school will be held before the program and after the program. The school will be open 6 p.m. The program is titled: “History of Jefferson School, Part 2.” Join in for an entertaining and informative presentation as Jim Schwar covers the later history of Jefferson, including the junior high years, the elementary years, the demolition of the school and the new Jefferson School. The program is free to the public. Refreshments will be served after the program.
Sept. 20
Wildlands Conservancy will host the program “Magnificent Moths” 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus. The program is designed for ages 4 and older. Participants will learn about moths that, although camouflaged to avoid predators, can glow under black light. There is a cost and registration is required. Emmaus Main Street Partners will host the annual Farewell to Summer Festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Triangle Park in the center of town. The event will feature food trucks and showcase local businesses and crafters. The event traditionally includes activities for kids and entertainment.
Wildlands Conservancy will host its fundraiser “Wine & Dine,” a farm-to-table experience, 4:30-7 p.m. at Lock Ridge Park, 525 Franklin St., Alburtis. Chefs from Roots Catering will prepare a seasonal menu of locally-sourced farm-fresh foods and beverages will include wine from Domaine Pterion Vineyard & Winery and beer from Weyerbacher Brewing Company. Join the Emmaus Historical Society in the backyard of 218 Main St., Emmaus, for the annual Emmaus Heritage Festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be live music, a food truck, crafts, games, interactive displays, a blacksmith demo and a PA long rifle demo. The historical society’s partners for this special event are the Shelter House, the Knauss Homestead, the 1803 House, the Emmaus Public Library, the Emmaus Moravian Church and the Emmaus Main Street Partners. The event is held the same day as the Emmaus Farewell to Summer Festival.

Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society quarterly meeting 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township Building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is “Cider Making and the History of Bauman’s Cider.” The Bauman family will present the program about cider making in general and their business in Sassamansville. Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company will host a community dedication ceremony for its new fire station, 955 S. Ott St. 11 a.m. The event will include a raffle as well as food trucks.

Doors open 1 p.m. and bingo begins 2 p.m. There is a cost for tickets, which include dinner and bingo. Additional bingo cards and raffles will also be available for purchase at the event. Attendees also are welcome to donate a pair of new pajamas for children in need (sizes newborn through 18). Those who donate will receive a special bingo card to play a cash game exclusively for pajama donors. All donations will benefit foster kids throughout Pennsylvania. Fourth St. The program is “Plants of Murder and Mayhem,” Fans of Agatha Christie will be familiar with the power of various plants to create murder and mayhem. Beware the nightshade! Back away from that English yew! Plants have been employed throughout history for both good and bad uses. Learn how plants in your own gardens or close habitats have been used for nefarious deeds. Also, learn about some common ornamental plants you may want to avoid due to their toxic properties. Sue Drabic, a Penn State gardener, will present this “spooky” program. All are welcome. The Seed Farm’s Farm-to-Table Dinner is scheduled 4-7 p.m. in the farm’s greenhouse at sunset. Diners will enjoy a four-course dinner, cocktails and music performances. St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus, begins its 100th anniversary celebration of the church building with the annual spaghetti dinner 4-7 p.m. All are welcome; there is a cost.

St. John’s Lutheran Church 100th anniversary celebration starting with a traditional Sunday service, including a German part and hymns performed and offered at the very first St. Johns Church Service Oct. 5, 1924. After, attendees will enjoy a fellowship organized by the stewardship committee that will include refreshments, bake goods, tours, photos and history on St. John’s Lutheran Church Emmaus over the last 100 years.

Milou Mackenzie, R-131st, will host a shredding event 10 a.m. to noon at Valley Community Church, 501 Graber Alley, Red Hill. Constituents may shred up to four boxes or bags of documents per vehicle. Boxes should be approximately the size of a piece of carry-on luggage. The event is designed to assist with disposal of documents containing sensitive information such as Social Security numbers or banking information. The event is limited to homeowners. The 131st District covers parts of Lehigh County including Lower Milford, Upper Milford and Upper Saucon townships, Salisbury Township’s Ward 03 [part, Division 01] and Coopersburg borough; Marlborough, Salford and Upper Hanover townships and East Greenville, Green Lane, Pennsburg and Red Hill boroughs in Montgomery County and Lower Saucon Township, Districts 01, 02, 04, 07 and 08 in Northampton County.

The Salisbury Athletic Booster Club will hold a clothing drive 9 a.m. to noon. Donations of unwanted clothing and household items may be brought to the auxiliary gym at Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St. A list of acceptable items is available on the website clothingdrive.net.
