LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Ward, Hawks ready to get taste of Cottingham Std.

Tyler Ward has never been to Easton’s Cottingham Stadium, but he’s heard all about it. He’ll get an up close view this Friday when Bethlehem Catholic travels there to take on the Rovers in one of the week’s most anticipated contests.

Both teams enter with a 2-1 record and both teams are looking for their first win over a District 11 opponent.

It’s the first week of the official EPC schedule as well and Ward would like to leave Easton with more than just a memorable experience from his first trip to Cottingham.

“From what I hear, any time you go over to Easton it’s a great atmosphere,” said Ward. “We’re all excited for that, but you always want to come out of each game with a win. I look at every week as potential for us to make a statement. I think our starters can play with anybody in the EPC. I know our kids want to make a big statement.”

Becahi was never really threatened in last Thursday’s 28-10 win over Berks Catholic. The Hawks ran for 200 yards and rushed for all four scores, led by quarterback Cayden Vassa’s three rushing touchdowns. Vassa also threw for 100 yards, but the Hawks had plenty of miscues that need to be cleaned up before they take on a feisty Easton squad.

Becahi committed 10 penalties for 100 yards last week and turned the ball over three times.

Ward knows those type of mistakes aren’t a recipe for success, especially against an upcoming Easton team.

Jasir Frutchey made some noise last week in Easton’s 51-7 win over Northeast, catching four balls for 132 yards and four touchdowns.

“I think they’re really good,” said Ward of the Rovers. “Their roster is pretty loaded on offense. Two stud running backs and they do a great job. Two huge receivers and the quarterback is a year older. The offensive line is well coached and they do a great job with scheme. They’ve scored a lot of points and we need to keep pace.”
