Nawarynski scores six goals in one of three 13-0 wins

The number 13 was certainly a lucky number for the Emmaus High School field hockey team as week as it won all three of its Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contests all by 13 goals.

The Hornets defeated Pocono Mountain West last Tuesday, Sept. 3, at home, East Stroudsburg South last Thursday on the road and then finished off the week with a win over Pleasant Valley at home on Saturday. All scores were 13-0.

In the win over the Panthers, Sadi Nawarynski tallied a game-high six goals, while adding an assist. Madi Lenig, Gracie Huffer and Autum Kernechel each finished with two goals with Lenig and Kernechel contributing two assists. Sharlise Solano rounded out the scoring with a goal.

Emmy Horner totaled four assists. Emmaus outshot PMW 45-0 overall and 37-0 on goal, while holding a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners. Aiko Price and Emily Romano split time in cage, but did not record a save.

Against the Cavaliers, Nawarynski and Horner each had a hat trick, while Huffer, Kernechel and Solano both recorded two goals. Riley Povilaitis tacked on a goal and two assists. Lenig totaled three assists and Addison Povilaitis added two assists. Emmaus had a 52-0 edge in shots and 9-0 advantage in corners.

Lenig led the way over the Bears with four goals, while Huffer tallied a hat trick. Kernechel and Nawarynski both scored twice and Horner and Marissa Gigliotti rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Emmaus outshot Pleasant Valley 35-0 with 30 being on goal and had 21 corners. Price, Romano and Anastasia Christman split time and did not see a shot on cage.

Emmaus hosted Freedom Tuesday and is at Stroudsburg on Thursday afternoon, before concluding the week with a home nonconference game against one of New Jersey’s top teams, Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, on Saturday morning.
