Hornet girls soccer wins first two games

The Emmaus High School girls soccer team entered the 2024 season under a new head coach. The Green Hornets got off on the right foot by winning their first two games of the new campaign.

In the home and season opener on Saturday morning, August, 24, Emmaus defeated Wilson West Lawn 4-1 in a nonconference game. The Hornets followed that three nights later with a 6-0 shutout victory over Whitehall in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opener this past Tuesday at Whitehall.

Three different players found the back of the net for Emmaus in the win over the Bulldogs.

Giuliana Meyer got the scoring going with a goal off an assist from Kamryn McWhinney, who then joined in by notching her first goal as McWhinney had the last touch of the ball before a Wilson player knocked it in for an own goal.

The fourth and final goal of the day was tallied by Ella Scharper and assisted by Lizzy Bender. Goal keeper Ashley Stine finished with six saves in goal.

In the win against the Zephyrs, McWhinney had the big night, pacing the offense with a hat trick. Meyer, Bender and Morgan Tandy rounded out the scoring with a goal each, with Bender also adding three assists. Gabby Powell, Sophia Isaksson and Andrea Dolcemascolo all had an assist. Stine made two saves, while Sadie Wallace stopped one shot.

Emmaus had a nonconference game at Dallas High School postponed from Thursday night and remains on the road for its next game, back in conference play, as it plays at Pocono Mountain East. The Hornets host Central Catholic Friday afternoon.
