Green reaches milestone

The Northwestern Lehigh High School girls volleyball team opened the season last week with matches on three straight days.

The Tigers came out 2-1 in those matches, bearing Saucon Valley and Catasauqua but lost to Southern Lehigh.

In the 3-0 season-opening win over Saucon Valley last Monday, Aug. 27, Northwestern senior Shannon Green recorded her 1,000th career assist as she had 26 in the match to go along with 5 digs and an ace. Sienna Almonti had 11 kills for the Tigers, while teammate Nora Silfies had seven kills, two blocks and two aces.

In a 3-0 loss to Southern Lehigh a day later, Silfies led Northwestern with six kills and three blocks. Green had 17 assists and three aces in the loss.

Silfies posted another nine kills and a pair of blocks in a 3-0 win over Catasauqua the next day. Green assisted on 22 points in the match to go along with four digs. Alsye Browning had six kills for the Tigers.

Northwestern lost 3-2 to Notre Dame (Green Pond) Monday. No information about that match was received by the Press.
