Girls soccer team posts straight six shutouts

Opponents went six straight games without getting a goal against the Northwestern Lehigh girls soccer team before Bangor scored in a 9-1 loss to the Lady Tigers.

Northwestern (5-0-0 Colonial, 8-0-0 overall) has picked up right where it left off last season as it looks to work its way through the regular season and do some damage in the postseason.

In the first of four wins over the past week, Northwestern downed Palisades 3-0 and then wrapped up a stretch of three games in four days with a 6-0 win over Notre Dame – Green Pond (2-3-0, 3-3-0).

The sophomore combination of Sophia Schaffer and Kherington Yezik went to work against Palisades (2-1-1, 4-1-1).

First, Schaffer picked up an unassisted goal in the first half to give Northwestern a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Yezik added a goal off an assist from Schaffer before the tandem switched roles with Yezik assisting Schaffer on her second goal of the game.

Opening this week with games on back-to-back days, Northwestern downed Wilson (0-6-0, 0-6-0) 8-0 on the road and then beat previously undefeated Bangor (5-1-0, 6-1-0) at home in a 9-1 contest.

The schedule has Northwestern playing four times over the next week with all of the games being on the road.

It begins with a trip to Pen Argyl (0-3-0, 2-3-0) before heading down Route 309 for a matchup against Southern Lehigh (2-2-1, 3-4-1) and finishes with games at Lehighton (2-4-0, 3-5-0) and Palmerton (2-1-0, 3-2-0).
