Falcon soccer teams battle early-season struggles

The boys and girls varsity soccer teams at Salisbury Township High School are off to a tough start to the season.

The two teams have a combined record of 1-7 through the early portion of the season.

The boys team is looking to fill some big holes that were created by the loss of 10 players to graduation and the girls team is looking to get younger players to mesh with the more experienced varsity players, creating some early issues. Neither team has been helped by an early schedule featuring some good teams.

The girls (0-4 Colonial, 0-4 overall) opened with a nonleague battle against Pleasant Valley (2-1-1) that ended in a competitive loss in a 2-0 game. From there, the Falcons were defeated 11-0 by the Saucon Valley Panthers (2-0-0) and then fell to Catasauqua (2-1-0) and Northern Lehigh (1-2-0).

The loss to the Rough Riders was in a 2-0 game and against Northern Lehigh, the Falcons fell 7-1, but picked up their first goal of the season.

The upcoming schedule has road games at Lehighton (1-4-0) and Palisades (3-0-0) before the Falcons return home to host Jim Thorpe (0-2-0) next Thursday.

The boys (1-2 Colonial, 1-3 overall) opened with a nonleague game against EPC power Northampton (3-0-0) and fell 9-0 before opening its Colonial League schedule against Saucon Valley (1-0-0), who beat the Falcons 6-1. From there, the boys fell to Northern Lehigh (2-1-0) by a 3-0 score and then picked up their first win of the season with a 5-2 decision against Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg (0-2-0).

The boys play Lehighton (0-2-0), Tamaqua (0-3-1), and Palisades (0-3-0) over the next week.

Individual scorers and statistics from games have not been received by the Press.
