EHS golf team improves to 8-1

The Emmaus High School golf team heads into the final two weeks of the regular season at 8-1 overall and in East Penn Conference matches as all of the team’s matches this season have come against league foes.

In a win over East Stroudsburg North on Aug. 22, sophomore Evan Walters led the Hornets and earned medalist honors with a 1-under par 70 at Brookside Country Club as the Hornets beat the Timberwolves 403-511.

Sophomore Silas Wellhoener shot 75 in the match, followed by junior Kyan DeLong (80), Karson Krasley (87) and Zack Heller (91) rounding out the Hornets’ top five.

Walter also earned medalist honors in an Aug. 27 win over Pocono Mountain West. He shot 2-over par 74 to lead his team to a 420-642 win.

Scores from other recent Hornet golf matches were not received by the Press.

With five matches left on the schedule, Emmaus is fifth in the District 11 Class 3A rankings and needs to move up at least one place to qualify for team districts later this month.

Northampton (11-1) and Nazareth (9-0) have the top two spots all but locked up, while Colonial League team Southern Lehigh (7-0) is likely to remain in the third position.

Parkland (11-2) is fourth with its only two losses coming at the hands of the top two teams. Emmaus faces Parkland in the season finale Sept. 12 at Twin Lakes.

The Hornets, whose only loss this season came against Northampton, also have remaining matches against Blue Mountain (6-2) on Sept. 4, Freedom (7-5) on Sept. 5, Central Catholic (3-8) on Sept. 10 and a make-up quad match against Stroudsburg (6-3), Liberty (6-3) and Nazareth at Shawnee Golf Course that was postponed back on Aug. 9 and is now slated for Sept. 3.
