St. Peter Roman Catholic Church member
Robert L. Porvaznik, 93, of Whitehall, died Sept. 3, 2024. He was the husband of the late Clare Porvaznik for 55 years.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph and Florence (Lanshe) Porvaznik.
He graduated from high school at Don Bosco Prep, in Ramsey, N.J., in 1948. He graduated from Belmont Abbey Jr. College, in Belmont, N.C., in 1950 and Niagara University in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and became a staff sergeant and tank commander with the 25th Infantry Division where he received two Bronze Battle Stars on his Korean War service medal. He continued with the U.S. Merchant Marines and worked on oil tankers.
He retired from West Chemical Products in 1997 as eastern regional sales manager.
He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Coplay, and was former CYO director and seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball coach for 11 years.
He was active with Hokendauqua American Legion Post 739 and a variety of veterans organizations.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura and husband Ken Schoenberger; a son, Robert J. and wife Tami; a brother, Phillip; four grandchildren, Karla and husband Ricky Smith, Katie Cortney, Kyle and wife Gina and Clint and companion Kayla; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Joanne Gallagher.
